Is there an answer to what is happening in our nation? If so, what is it? What do we do?
I believe the Lord has set out a strategy in His word which I have outlined below:
2 Chronicles 7:13“When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people,
14if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
We see in these verses what the Jewish people were to do when they were hit by various calamities. The strategy they were given still applies today.
Firstly, The Lord in verse13 sets out the trials that will come to His people: He warns of drought, locusts and plagues that will come upon their land.
Secondly, God then gives the answer: He will deal with the problems in the land, but there is a clause: 'if'.
The Lord is not addressing non-believers, but ' If My People who are called by My name...'. The people of God are His priests, intercessors, mediators, not those who unbelievers. God's people are the ones who are to stand in the gap for the country they live in.
Today, the Lord is calling on His people with the big 'If'. Will we arise to what the Lord is calling us to do? In our society there are many things going on: the coronavirus, chaos, confusion, fear, and divisions amongst people...the list goes on.
Christians, the people called by His name, are in a unique position to do something about these problems. The Lord has given us, His intercessors, what we need to do.
1 We just humble ourselves. As God's people, we are part of the people of our country, that are in deep distress. We must come humbly before the Lord in prayer.
2 We are to pray by offering our petitions and requests for our nation, to God.
3 We are to seek God's face. To seek is to consult, to ask, to enquire. This is paramount for believers, so that we know from God how He wants us to pray. Otherwise, how do we know? The Lord wants His people to be in step with His heartbeat. He wants us to enter into an intimacy with Him that can only come through spending time with Him, by seeking His Will.
Why is it so important? Praying to God covers a multitude of things and is great; knowing what, and how to pray, by seeking His will is better. It is like a sharp-shooter hitting the target every time.
4 The church must turn from its wicked ways. In other words, the church needs to repent. What does repent mean? It means a change of mind. If we are sinning against the Lord and His Word, we need to have a change of mindset and heart. We need to get back on track with Him. We have allowed the world into the church: interfaith, sexual sins, idolatry etc. We must repent personally, and for the church at large.
5 After these things are done, God will answer. '...then I will hear from heaven....' We need God to hear our prayers if He is going to answer them.Only by carrying out what is written in verse 14, will cause God to hear.
6 Then He will forgive our sins. Why? The reason is because we have confessed and repented of our sins.
7 Finally, The Lord will heal our land.
Conclusion: The church must now rise up to the challenge we are being called to for the sake of our land. The Lion of Judah, Jesus, wants us to rise up and raw. We must now take-up our positions, put on the armour of God (Ephesians 6).
We have the Spirit of Jesus in us to enable us to accomplish all he requires of us. Through the cross and resurrection, He has won the war (Colosians 2:15), but battles still need fighting. That's our job, with Jesus fighting through us.
He wants His Spirit to operate through us showing love, being a light, having true unity in the Spirit, having faith, not fear (the antidote to fear Psalm91, and the protection of the blood of Jesus). He is the answer to our society's problems and needs, not man. Jesus wants us to break the strongholds of the enemy.
We have His authority over all the works of the enemy: Luke 10:19 Listen carefully: I have given you authority (that you now possess) to tread on serpents and scorpions, and (the ability to exercise authority) over all the power of the enemy (Satan); and nothing will (in any way) harm you
The question is, will we arise to the task He has called us to do?
